SETTING UPDATES:
- Happy autumn! Pumpkins are growing out of the ground in completely random spots, and some out of your buildings/houses. Whoops. It’s fine, they won’t damage the buildings thaaaat much, and they can be harvested for pumpkin pie or a snack. Weirdly, some of them contain assorted candy instead of pumpkin guts. Don’t think about it too hard.
- Flamebringer has set up a tattoo/piercing shop in the North Grove. That’s it, that’s the update, have fun getting inked by a guy with questionable morals.
- Ezell has set up a bunny bakery as well this month. It's a bakery, but there are bunnies running around that you can pick up and love on. 10/10.
- We are aware that the Guardians have been up to… many things since our last update, so we thought we’d consolidate recent updates, especially for the new folks:
- Moder is still Moder-ing. With the arrival of autumn, she no longer grows pretty mosses and flowers along her back. Instead, she is sporting a permanent blanket of orange and yellow leaves, but is still about 85% fleshy. She, notably, has started avoiding the barn…
- …because Zonari is sitting on top of it these days. Zonari will mostly continue to file her nails and watch you guys do things, and won’t actively interfere in things. You’re welcome to continue trying to domesticate her. Zonari is not a Guardian, she is The Creature/The Forest/The False God/Suri’s construct; the Zahliyaquest Recap has the whole explanation of her there.
- Zahliya, however, who is a Guardian and is legally her cousin who she calls “brother”, is Not Fucking Happy about her presence here, but he’s learnt to go along with what you guys say. He will be seen on the Church roof, peacocking and raising his wings in a threat display, especially if further monsters happen. (And they will! :) )
- Callan moves between the lake and Siffrin’s room, where he has a fishtank (his “mobile home” he calls it). He is otherwise completely unbothered by Zonari.
- Sinann is, as stated last month, larger and able to talk to people normally without the bone ring. It is happy to have conversation, but still has to keep to the relative region of the river.
- Aurora is still dead. She stirred a bit ago, but she has not yet come back to life. Having a name and Beat’s wish have helped her, though.
- Sometimes, players may be lovingly accosted by a group of wandering, sentient skeletons holding trumpets and drums and other band kid instruments. The leader of them is, of course, Mr. Bone-Jangles, who has reappeared several times before (last October and April) and is trying his damn best to spread more joy around because you kids are depressed and he wishes for you to have joy.
- Unfortunately for Mr. Bonejangles, the depression continues! :) This month’s event is also completely experimental so please bear with us mods, we don’t usually do these.
- This month’s event and therefore this month’s cease and desist letter in our inbox is based on a few IPs: Jordan Peele’s “Us”, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and Phasmophobia. Mostly the first and last. There will be signups for certain aspects of this event, so please check out those comments if you want to be raffled in for some fun. Also if you haven’t seen “Us” and you want to, close this post and go watch it real quick and come back in 2 hours when you’re done, because there are going to be spoilers for the general ideas, surprise.
- At the beginning of the month, your “Others” will appear. They look like you, they act like you, and they talk like you, and they are, as far as you’re aware, “just like you”. Except for the fact they want to murder you and take your place. For the month, characters will have to avoid getting murked by their Others, but the good news is, the Others can be killed! They’ll be difficult to kill off, like all things here are, but that’s a small boon. Your Others are perfectly content to kill others, too, provided they can get them somewhere alone, because their goal…
- …is to replace you. Take your life, your identity, and be “you” for the rest of time. Characters who are killed and replaced by their Others will not immediately return to life. Though they won’t suffer death consequences in the Garden, they will temporarily go to A Secondary Location™: A creepy wooden mansion that mysteriously appears somewhere in the middle of the woods. Their spirits will be trapped here, haunting these halls until they’re rescued.
- Some characters will be automatically start the month doppelgangered. Aka, they were killed or captured (depending on player preference, since we don’t want to Force death on anyone) quietly in the night and brought to/woke up in the wooden mansion, unable to leave, where they will haunt the halls. The Others will take their place in the Grove and, preferably, act natural but “slightly off”. Perhaps they don’t remember someone’s birthday, or their relationship with someone, or a fact from the past. We are asking you to play what you think your character’s doppelganger would be!
- This is based on signups and has an RNG component to it. We’re estimating 3-5 characters that start as their Others this month, but that depends on signups. We will contract the people who get selected to be doppelgangers privately, but please let us know your preferred contact method (and if you prefer Plurk & the mods aren’t on your plurklist, we recommend adding us at

- You may sign up as many characters as you want, i.e. Aspen can sign up both Vash and Luca — but unless player engagement is super low for this, only ONE of your characters will be selected. This is so that the odds aren’t stacked against people who play one character. (We will RNG based on player, not character; characters will be RNG’ed afterwards if we land on a winner that has multiple signups.) Signups close Oct. 2nd, at which point we will RNG people.

Of course, that’s easier said than done, considering your own Others might just follow you inside to try killing you off.
- This exploration will be partially mod-guided and will be done in a separate post about mid-month. Characters who are haunting the mansion will feel a burst of ghostly silliness toward the living — you could try to kill them even though they’re here to rescue you, or you could try to jumpscare them, or maybe just throw canned soup at their heads. Other “NPC” spirits filled in by the mod team might be either silly or hostile.
- We encourage toplevelling and tagging on that new post. We want our ghosts to tag our living and vice versa. And, to reiterate: Unless you are our beginning-of-month doppelganger victims OR you decide to doppelganger yourself before we get the post up, your slot in the rescue is guaranteed.
- The rescue will take place over the course of… five nights. :) Please laugh.
- Spirits will be rescued by finding The Thing Keeping Them Tethered There. More details will be provided on the secondary event log.
- This event is very involved and we’re aware of that, so a recap of the “rules” will be posted in a comment below to avoid scrolling. This is our first time trying something like this and we hope it’s fun. If you guys hate it though please let us know, we can handle it.
- This is our last TDM of the year! November and December will not be TDMs, so the next will be in January. In November, we will be running a player plot, and December will be relatively calm to account for the holidays.
- The TDM portion is the first log; the rescue log is NOT a TDM and is locked to only active characters/players.

A: The mansion won't pop up until mid-month, right. The guessing game will be with y'all, We The Mods are not gonna police it. It's okay if you don't solve all of the mystery though imho. Sometimes reveals are funnier if you walk into a house and you're like YOU'VE BEEN FAKE THE WHOLE TIME?
Q: okay so. when you say general doppelgangers can happen later in the month, does that mean it would be after a specific point in the month? like X part of the plot drops and then general doppelgangers can happen?
A: AH that's confusingly worded yes I'm sorry. It's not like subject to a timer I just mean... if you don't signup for a mystery but you want to write your doppelganger killing your character in broad daylight or smth, you won't START the month doppelgangered, but it can be like. right at the beginning of the month if that makes sense. Like the signup/mystery havers will just be gone Immediately starting at midnight oct 1st. Like you will be quietly offed. If you live with someone else uhh idk have fun with the logistics of that-

♡ Play your doppelgangers! We will not police how this is done, but we do want you to have fun with it. Sow seeds of suspicion, make your CR feel the need to investigate further, etc.
♡ You will be doppelgangered from the beginning of the month (Oct 1st), NOT from when the event log goes up (Oct 4th). Please plan accordingly; sign ups for this close Oct 2nd at midnight MST.
♡ You may sign up as many characters as you want; only ONE of your characters will be selected, unless we get minimal signups. Mod characters will not be in this pool, again unless engagement is low.

Vash the Stampede
Status: HOO BOY
So! Vash will be coming back to the Grove finally. You can read the whole thread here (mind the CWs) but basically, after thinking his corruption was cured thanks to Ain and the El, he went all biblically accurate, killed Livio, and then took off!
Needless to say, Vash will start this month off extremely corrupted. He will approach the Grove and go on the attack. For this reason, I will potentially be playing Vash very sparingly on the main event this month. As exciting as it is I want to see how things play out with his CR and (potentially) other cast before things really kick off.
Seeking: Volunteers!
If you're looking for your character to be corrupted and/or killed, or want a reason to be out of the event, hiiii! Basically, Vash may attack up to 3 players this month, if yall are wanting it (otherwise I can figure something else out). I woooould like for this to be mostly planned out pretty quickly (IE: by the first) since I want to spend this weekend getting things typed up. But also if you decide after the fact... it's fine. We're flex.

Status: BACK FROM THE DEAD, BABEY!!! the month will start off with raz fronting bc he's. extremely on edge after liv just let himself fucking die.
for the new folks: livio is a Huge cowboy slash teddy bear and razlo is his protector alter. raz is particularly loud and profane and ready to fucking tussle at any given point. as much as he threatens violence, though, he's pretty much been neutered thanks to livio's new set of morals (modeled after vash's, of course). so he won't actually aim to Hurt you unless you're trying to hurt him or others. given the nature of the event... well, maybe he Will bite if you provoke him! we'll see!
livio will probably also be back out at some point in the month. bc i love and miss him.

Status: Sesa had a break last month! Since I was on hiatus he honestly didn't have anything dramatic or too crazy or exciting happen...he just worked on his little projects in his little (now dry) workshop and kissed his fiance. He's flourishing, in his lane, etc
Seeking: Sesa hasn't been put through the meat grinder since The Mizuki Incident(tm), so I'm leaving what happens to him in regards to this month up to the rng gods. Will he be doppeled? Will he be rescuing people? Even I don't know!!

Passenger first this time
Hi new people: this is Passenger or Elliot. Passenger is his code name because Arknights is weird. Sesa calls him Elliot because they're ~gay~, no one else can call him Elliot he'll snap at you if you do. Ok thanks.
Also he sometimes talks to a split-off part of his psyche that appears as a childhood version of himself who I note as "Little Elliot" so that'll get confusing real fast, if this is unclear at any point or you're like "don't do this to me" the opt out is on my perms post ok thanksStatus: SO! Passenger (who is a pigeon) (this is lore the arknights are animals passenger is specifically an extinct variety of pigeon) was on hiatus/autopilot last month just running the cafe. I sort of... broke his hiatus briefly to goof on the network, it's fine, but anyway the second I put him on hiatus his braincells were like "wait hello bitch??" so now I'm here.
He has not been put through the bird wiggler in a bit. Most of my beatings have fallen on Gnosis and Ain because they're more reactive. Passenger doesn't have a lot of tangible emotions he can feel, he's sort of fucked up by his Oripathy (which is basically cancer with rocks, it is very contagious do NOT touch his forehead where the rocks stick out of his skin PURE VANILLA) so his ability to feel emotions is compromised severely. But! But but but! I have ideas for him. Obviously he's going to be there to get fuckt up by Vash... I am also vaguely entertaining the idea of killing him in this way because I haven't had a death plot yet >:( ain doesn't count >:( but I'm going to need to uhh flex my mod powers or something to keep Oripathy from spreading throughout the grove because uh. Oripathy victims dying means their bodies either explode or disintegrate into rock-dust to further spread the illness. It's great. Don't worry no one will get rock cancer if I do this tho.
Anyway, should I opt toward the murder and I'm kind of leaning toward "yes", I will probably have his doppelganger show up like ??? where is he. where the fuck is he. and when people approach like "passenger you're back from the dead!" he'll very much be like "what do you mean I died, I didn't die" which will out the bitch immediately. Then real Passenger can come back and we can have the whole uh... "I'm the real one, shoot that one!" joke. I think it'll be funny idk.

Status: Well, she threw a temper tantrum in front of god, so that's a good...start...I guess. On the more positive end of things, she was given an animal for some reason, and will be unwittingly using it for emotional support. ...Which she desperately needs. Haha, who needs therapy when you can accidentally give it to yourself?!
Being from a fighting game, doppelgangers are not an unfamiliar concept (even if it's technically not canon), and A.B.A. had some...surprisingly upsetting things to say about hers. This always really interested me considering she generally has a high opinion of herself, she literally has herself listed as one of her likes in her profile. So....secret self loathing?? Unable to recognize her own flaws until they're right in front of her face?? Some sort of "There can only be one" mentality??? Either way, what this boils down to is that A.B.A. is absolutely killing her double right away because she is NOT about that. This will give her a chance to help others who may have a harder time killing. This offer is especially extended to close CR.
Seeking: As always, more CR would be great, expanding on existing CR also great. A.B.A.'s got a good support system building up, which I love, and I even thiiiiiink (???) PV plans on dragging her inside eventually so she won't be cryptiding around as much. Now the challenge is getting her to bathe regularly.

Status: She's, uh, she's surviving! TK got a chunk taken out of her back by one of the monsters and has been recuperating at the clinic for a few days at the end of the month. She's certainly going to have a nice big scar from that. Since it happened while she was getting Loop the heck out of the forest, they have now had some Trauma Bonding. As a result, TK has asked Loop to (confidentially) teach her some offensive Craft, but will she have time to learn any before shit goes wild in October? Who knows!
The remaining half of her Sonic Embroider was left behind in the process of all that; Beat probably found it and buried it somewhere. So now there's another half of a time machine somewhere that someone could possibly stumble upon.
Getting to speak with Beiwe has also galvanized TK's major plans - that is, trying to undo the Grove's current timefuckery to whatever degree possible. A discussion with Pure Vanilla has led her to think perhaps creating some kind of anchor to at least help stabilize time within the town would work. She's also learned that it was Suri who had the greatest grasp on time among the gods, and plans to go bother Zonari about it at some point. Doppelgangers might get in the way of all that first... but as always, time will tell!
Seeking: Basically anything, but I would especially love more threads where she gets thrown off because what do you mean people are sincerely caring about her that doesn't happen?

Status: Isabeau has an interesting CLU to share! Which he's kinda just :thinking: about cause huh that was weird haha what was that about. Icly looking for a good opportunity to share it but ooc I am all over it. Otherwise he's boring in that he's still just Settling... but he does have some plans to aim for, most of which involve his fashion designing work but mostly something to pick up on during downtime and offer help around so he can be useful! (Let him be useful.) Just wants to! Find his footing!
Seeking: Anything and everything! Isa is still settling in being new and all, but he's just a big bear dog who is happy to be of use. So if you'd like a big brother figure, he's absolutely there, if you need a genuine friend that will check up on you and treat you with love and care - hey that's him too! He's also incredibly handy with a sewing needle so if you need any small minor fixes or bigger dreams of clothes, he's your guy! If you wanna teach him colors that would be fun too. He's a smart guy and will catch on relatively quickly. OH AND he's a pretty big drinker so if anyone wants a drinking buddy. /thumbs up

Pure Vanilla
Status: PV is being PV as usual! He gave another fourth of his soul jam to Beiwe during the Sunyonce, he's trying to help everyone and stretching himself thinner than a rubber band, he's got Oripathy still cause woopsie have not been able to cure it just yet, and sooner or later (it's sooner) he's gonna pop. Wee! He spent the previous month being a training dummy for the Monsters of this month in the Forest, came home, relaxed, sunyonced, then promptly had to deal with the Monsters again. He wants a break. I am not going to give him one.
That being said, he will always take time out to offer a hand to everyone else who needs it, as he puts everyone above his own needs. Speaking of, he's going to need someone to help him give the last of his Soul Jam away because :) well. It will kill him, and he will be unable to finish the ritual. He's going to give the last half to Aurora, to help quicken her further to awakening.
Don't try to talk him out of it, it won't work.

They've been loitering in the clinic since mid-late September after one too many run-ins with the forest monsters. As of October they will probably start looking into better temporary arrangements, might camp outside PV's house until ISAT house happens idk we'll see!! if anyone would wanna try and drag them indoors or w/e let me know, they have an aversion to staying indoors too much because of the horrors but like... they can manage... if u find them up in the middle of the night holding a knife and rifling through drawers dwbi they're coping
